Proud Winners of the Waste Free Wednesday Trophy!
Our class received the trophy this week for having the lowest amount of lunch waste on waste free Wednesday! Way to go 1R!

Many minds, many ideas

Effective group inquiry across first grade as we answer the question, "How can one person change a whole country?"
Ask your child about the American he/she researched for our famous American project. How did this famous American's accomplishments, contributions and character help change America?

More group work as we help a family of mice solve a problem. Ask your child how his/her group collaborated to create a solution for this island living family awaiting a visit from their friends.

Cans, Cans, Cans!

Thank you to all of our families for making our 100th Day Canned Food Drive such a success!
Kindergarten and first grade collected a total of 958 cans for Cool Food Pantry in Waukegan!
We counted.
We boxed.
We carried.

And, we loaded.

Stacking up Minutes and Dominoes

Thank you for all your support during iRead. Our class read a total of 8,874 minutes!

Ask your child about a new math activity, Stack Up. For Stack Up we first make a choice, over or under 33, and then let the game begin. Pick a domino, 1,2 3, flip. Count the tens and the ones to determine if you are over or under the magic 33. Did you earn a tally?

Primary Winter Sing

Thank you for joining us for the performance! We hope you enjoyed our alphabetic rendition of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

Our Trophy, Service Project, and Who's Closest?

Proud Waste-Free Wednesday Winners
Our class received the trophy this week for having the lowest amount of lunch waste on waste-free Wednesday! Our lunch garbage on that day weighed only 12.8 ounces. Way to go 1R!

Collecting Food for a Local
Food Pantry
Thank you to all the families who have sent in cans! We are on our way to collecting 100 cans by the 100th day of school. Any cans you can send in to support our efforts would be greatly appreciated. Your children are excited to count the cans and participate in this service project. All cans will be donated to a local food pantry after February 11th, our 100th day of school.

Who's Closest
In our newest domino game, Who's Closest, players partner up, roll a die to identify a target number, and then pick dominoes. Who will be closest to the target number? Ask your child how he/she makes the decision whether to add or subtract the domino pips.

How many minutes will our class read by January 31st?

Thank you to all that came to the Highland Park Library yesterday to support the kick-off of the District 112 iRead program. How nice to be with you and share stories. Please support our class between now and January 31st by writing down daily reading minutes on the iRead form that came home on Friday. Fundraising is not required, our class goal is for everyone to participate and read, read, read!

HAPPY READING!
